Meet Jonathan
Hi there! I’m Jonathan Skinkis, and I’m thrilled to have you here.
If you’re like me, navigating the world of travel with a disability, you know that it can be a unique challenge—but it’s one I’m passionate about overcoming and helping others overcome too.
A Little About Me
I’ve only been deeply involved in the disability escapes (travel) niche for a few months, but my passion for accessible travel has been a long time in the making.
Living with scoliosis, I’ve learned firsthand that a disability doesn’t have to stop you from doing what you love.
By day, I work as an engineer fixing machinery—a job that might surprise some given my condition, but it’s proof that having a disability doesn’t mean giving up on your career or your dreams.
Why I Started This Blog
Traveling with a disability comes with its own set of challenges, but I firmly believe that with the right support, information, and tools, the world can be accessible to everyone.
I started this blog to share insights on accessible holidays, mechanical and electrical aids, and to create a community where we can inspire each other, share knowledge, and raise awareness about the joys and realities of disability escapes.
A Memorable Experience
One of the moments that solidified my commitment to this cause was when I noticed how the general public often dismisses people with disabilities, treating them as if they’re in the way.
This experience highlighted just how much work there is to do in changing perceptions, and it’s what fuels my dedication to making travel more inclusive for everyone.
Outside the Blog
When I’m not working on this blog, you’ll find me traveling (as much as I can!), indulging in some gaming, or simply enjoying the balance these activities bring to my life.
Staying creative and passionate in these areas helps me keep a fresh perspective and stay motivated in my mission to make travel more accessible.
Let’s Connect
Whether you’re someone with a disability looking for tips on accessible travel, a fellow advocate, or just curious about the world of disability escapes, I’d love to connect with you.
